Terms of sale

How buying a car from us works, in plain English. None of this takes away your legal rights.

Who you're buying from

Thames Cars Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (number 10607708), at 12–14 Aintree Road, Perivale, Greenford, UB6 7LA. Call us on 020 8050 8225 or message us on WhatsApp. We're open Mon–Sun, 10:00–19:00 (by appointment).

We're authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority as a credit broker (firm reference 942110). We introduce you to lenders; we aren't a lender.

The car and its price

  • We describe every car as accurately as we can: its mileage, history, condition and equipment. If anything in an advert is wrong, tell us before you buy and we'll correct it.
  • The advertised price is the price of the car. Before you pay anything, we'll confirm the total in writing, including any extras you choose, such as a warranty upgrade or delivery.
  • Viewings and test drives are by appointment, so the car is ready for you. We'll tell you what to bring.

Reserving a car with a deposit

  • We can hold a car for you if you pay a deposit. Before you pay it, we'll confirm in writing how long we'll hold the car, and when the deposit is and isn't refundable.
  • If we can't supply the car as described, you get your deposit back in full.
  • The deposit comes off the price when you buy.

Paying and ownership

  • We'll confirm how you can pay when you agree to buy. We'll never ask for card or bank details by WhatsApp, text or email.
  • The car becomes yours once it's paid for in full, or once the finance company has paid us.
  • From the moment you collect it, or it's delivered to you, you're responsible for the car: insure it before you drive it away.

Finance

  • Finance is subject to status and the lender's checks. Your finance agreement is with the lender, not with us.
  • Monthly prices on our website are representative examples. Your quote depends on your deposit, term and circumstances.
  • You can withdraw from a credit agreement within 14 days of signing it. You'd then need to repay what you borrowed, with any interest for those days.
  • More on how it works: finance.

Part exchange

  • We value your car on how you describe it, including its mileage, condition, history and any finance still owed.
  • If the car differs from that description when we see it, we may change our offer, and you can decide not to go ahead.
  • You confirm the car is yours to sell, and tell us about any finance on it. Where we agree to settle that finance, we pay the lender directly.

Delivery and collection

  • You can collect from our showroom, or we'll deliver. Delivery is free within 10 miles of Perivale. For further away, ask us for a price.
  • Before delivery, we'll confirm the date, the cost if there is one, and what happens if you change your mind (see below).

Your legal rights

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, the car must be of satisfactory quality (allowing for its age and mileage), fit for purpose and as described. If it isn't:

  • Within 30 days of taking it, you can reject the car and get a refund.
  • Within six months, a fault is presumed to have been there when you bought the car, unless we can show otherwise. You're entitled to a repair or replacement first. If that doesn't work, you can have a price reduction or reject the car. A refund may then be reduced to reflect the use you've had of it.
  • After six months, you still have these rights, but you may need to show the fault was there when you bought it.
  • You can bring a claim for up to six years.

These rights don't cover normal wear and tear, damage after you take the car, or faults we told you about before you bought it.

Buying without visiting: 14 days to cancel

If you buy without coming to our showroom (by phone, online or by message, with the car delivered to you), the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 give you extra rights:

  • You can cancel within 14 days of receiving the car, for any reason. Just tell us clearly, by phone, message or letter.
  • Return the car in the condition you received it. We refund what you paid, including standard delivery, within 14 days of getting the car back.
  • We can only make a deduction if the car has lost value because it was used more than you'd need to check it, such as extra mileage beyond a reasonable test drive.
  • We'll tell you before you buy who pays to return the car. If we don't, we pay.

Warranty

The warranty that comes with each car, and the plans you can add, are explained on our warranty page. A warranty is in addition to your legal rights above, never instead of them.

If something goes wrong

Tell us as soon as you can and we'll put it right. How we handle complaints, and where you can go if we can't agree, is on our complaints page.

The small print

  • These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
  • How we use your details: our privacy policy.
  • We may update these terms. The version on this page when you agree to buy is the one that applies to your purchase.

Last updated: 27 October 2026.

Finance and warranty partners

We arrange finance through a panel of lenders as a credit broker, not a lender. Finance is subject to status. Your car comes with three months of Warranty First cover.
